Happy New Years Eve!

It is new years eve! In less than 24 hours it will be 2013! This is my last post as of 2012!....

Okay so enough with the cheesy talk...It's been almost a month now since I've been building backlinks for my 3 websites using the tools I purchased in November 2012.

It's been working great! over 10k backlinks has been built / drip feed through out 3 different websites.
I am also seeing an increase in my revenue from the sites so I know the backlinks are working.

Problem is, I just checked it last night and noticed that a lot of my tier 1 and 2 backlinks no longer exist!

My problem was not creating the first tier links manually! lesson learned!

Your most import links to your site should always be your tier 1 or your first tier links. These should be on high quality PR sites.

Quality over quantity and this was a rookie mistake on my part by not manually building my first tiered links. I let my program search and create the first tiers... maybe it was a rookie mistake or it was a lazy mistake so now I will have to go back and correct this.

I've also been jumping around on the first page of google for "geoffrey woodruff" and not really keeping track of the progress since I've been busy with other things...(life and work)

There are only 24 hours in a day and 4 - 5 of those hours are spent sleeping for me...which leaves me with about 19 - 20 hours...finding the time to build links to my websites, finishing projects for clients, trying to land more sales / clients, answering questions from previous clients, keeping up with technology, building more personal sites, chasing down money that is owed to me by advertisers, writing my personal journal, writing this blog, finding new ways to make online mula, finding the time to spend with the other half and finding time to myself get the point.

So with a new year approaching we can only hope for the best / better but expect the same ol crap from last year...that's life isn't it?

I have not came up a new years resolution because most of the time they don't happen...besides me quitting smoking...that happened.

This coming new years resolution for me...No I'll take that back...

My new years resolution for 2013 is to get more internet sales, land more local clients and make more money with my business.

So to everyone out there. Have fun and be safe!

Which Web Browsers To Use

As I was looking through my hits and studying the overview of the people reading my blog I seen that most users were using Internet Explorer.

That's fine but if you are reading this I would recommend using google chrome or comodo dragon. Both these browsers are very light weight and gets the job done well. It may take some time to get used to how it functions but in the long run it will keep your internet browsing fast and secure.

Which Web Browsers Do I Personally Use?

I currently use, Google Chrome, Comodo Dragon, Mozilla Firefox, Safari and Internet explorer...Why? Because I am an internet marketer and web developer. I need to use all of the majorly used browsers to see how the site is functioning and if they are working properly in each browser.

Aside from testing my primary web browsers are chrome, comodo dragon and firefox and I will tell you how I use them and why.

Google Chrome

Google chrome is my primary surfing browser. I use this browser to check my email, facebook and do my main surfing on the web.

This browser is very light weight and doesn't consume as much ram as the other web browsers. I usually have around 26 - 30 tabs open at a time (I multi-task a lot). It also has a lot of great features.

Comodo Dragon

Comodo Dragon is my secondary browser, I use this to do a lot of internet marketing. Personally to me it is way more light weight then chrome and I love the private browsing feature (like google chromes incognito mode) which makes it great to not store any cookies when marketing online. I use this browser to post ads on craigslist, forums and other internet marketing task. I usually have around 10 - 20 tabs going on this browser.

I highly recommend using this browser.

Mozilla Firefox

Another awesome browser. This browser is mainly used for its awesome plugins. When doing SEO work I tend to use this browser along with some great plugins. This browser isn't as light weight as chrome and dragon but the plugins is what makes this browser great.

Internet Explore and Safari

Not a fan of these browsers and the only reason they are installed on my machine is to view a newly developed website and to see if it works properly. Not going into detail as to why I personally don't like these browsers but in my opinion THEY SUCK!

If you haven't tried any other browser I suggest you do so. Try them ALL. Find which one works best for you.

You'd be surprised on how changing your browser effects the way you surf the net.

The Field Of Logo Design

As a logo designer I face high competition around the world.

Competing against designers world wide which means having to adjust my pricing accordingly. Now days if you aren't ranked top 10 in google for top buying keywords for logo design then marketing and selling the service becomes tough.

Right now I am currently ranked in the top 10 on yahoo and bing but doesn't bring in enough traffic. I recently started SEO on my website but wont really see results till around Feb 2013.

Today I made a few sells through organic bing searches. Which shows that the SEO work that I started during the ending of Nov 2012 is starting to slowly pay off.

Still though, I am only charging $5.97 per concept due to supply and demand and me not having a lot of customers. Once sales pick up that is when I plan to raise the prices.

As my SERPS in the search engines increase so will my pricing. So in the mean time, enjoy USA quality design work at 3rd world country prices.

In this write up I am going to tell you exactly how I am marketing What websites I am using, my forums of FREE and PAID marketing.

Free Marketing

For free marketing I am relying on SEO (search engine optimization) Currently building back links to my site I already did the keyword research and found a list of about 20 good low comp keywords.

I am targeting those 20 keywords out of those 20 hopefully I can rank top 10 for 5 - 10 keywords.

Also for free marketing I am making 2 post every single day in craigslist under the services offered section.

Another way for free marketing I am currently using is posting on forums.

Now lets get to the paid advertising.

I am using ebay which charges final value fees and a 1 time setup fee. This 1 time setup fee is usually $1 for 30 days. Renews automatically. Now here comes the fun part. I am selling the logo directly on for $5.97 per concept and on ebay I am selling them for $10. In my description in the listing I am linking back to for users to view my portfolio.

During that time, I am hoping that they will see the price is cheaper if buying directly from me therefor cutting ebay out of the equation and saving me money on the final value fees.

Another forum of paid advertising I am using is facebook's PPC campaigns. In my campaign I already did my research and I used Quantcast to find the demographics of and based my facebook campaign around those stats.

The current campaign goes like this:

female ages 18 - 35
graduated from college
interested in business
makes $100 - $150k per year
cpc = $0.55
daily budget = $100 per day

Now I just started this campaign yesterday and only today it has become live. So far the campaign has reached 120 people with no clicks. I will study this for a week or so and adjust my campaign accordingly.

There it is. How I am marketing, sites and techniques I am using, etc.

As more sales comes in I will be marketing on a media buy in site but for now I will see how this does, I may need to boost my CPC to have facebook show my ad more often. I'll give it 3 days before adjusting the campaign, If I don't see sales / clicks in a day I will increase my CPC by 10 cents making it $0.65 cost per click.

Been Awhile Since My Last Post

So it's been awhile since my last post. I am slowly losing interest in writing my blog. I've also been slacking on writing my personal journal which keeps track of my progress...With all the personal stress and being busy just never found the time to write.

My blog has dropped to #6 in rankings since I haven't been updating it.

I'll try to write more or see if I can find the energy to even continue with this blog.

Really got nothing to write about at the moment so when I come up with ideas or anything else I'll update.

For now I got more important things to worry about.

I Am A Cynical and Pessimistic Person

oh no! a heated topic!

I don't know if that is a good thing or a bad thing But I've noticed that it annoys some people around me.

I understand that some people are optimistic but I simply can't ignore the facts.

To me It is better to hope for the best but expect the worst, it is harder to feel "let down" this way.

I know its really hard to change your way of thinking because we are normally shaped by our past.

If you continually were exposed to negatives (like being lied to, being let down, being cheated on, etc), then it is hard to put faith and trust in other things you do not have control over like people and the surrounding environment.

To me it's just a way of dealing with stuff that I can't really change. To sum up, I don't see anything wrong with being pessimistic or cynical, as long as you make sure you don't hurt anyone's feelings.

I'm trying to be more "open-minded" but deep down inside I will always be prepared for a battle. That is just the way I am and the way I see things.

Here are some quotes from other pessimistic people. Don't know exactly who said it but this is exactly how I see things:

"If you expect the worst, you'll never be disappointed"

"I'm beginning to think the only choice anyone has in life is between either a bad choice or a worse one."

“Sometimes a pessimist is only an optimist with extra information.”

“I like pessimists. They’re always the ones who bring life jackets for the boat.”

“A pessimist is a man who looks both ways when he crosses the street.”

Those were just a few quotes I gathered from other people just like me. Of course an optimistic person will disagree.

To me it just makes more logical sense. Let's take the last quote as an example.

“A pessimist is a man who looks both ways when he crosses the street.”

I know for a fact that If I don't look both ways when crossing the street there is a possibility that I could get ran over. I plan and  expect to be ran over that is why I take the time to look before crossing.

Where as an optimistic person would just cross the street with no plan to look because they believe there will always be a positive outcome...

That is not true at all! you have a chance to get ran over. Of course if an optimistic person got ran over then they would probably say something  like "well it could have been worst. I could have died"

Where as the pessimistic person was already prepared to get ran over from the start.

Like I mentioned above, I know it's really hard to change your ways or point of views but for the sake of the people around me I am trying more and more to be an optimistic person.

I Am A Professional, Not A Doormat

When being faced with a rude disrespectful client I tend to lose my cool. After all I am not the greatest sales man / customer service rep but trying to succeed with my business I am forced to become everything I am not.

I am faced with two options.

1. bite down and let the customer get his way with me.
2. speak my mind.

I tend to choose option number 2. Maybe not the best choice and I know that but if someone is going to spit on me, I simply refuse to say thank you...I will spit back.

If you treat me with respect and as a professional I will do the same.

So one of the main reasons why I haven't been updating my blog much was due to this very disrespectful client that I am currently battling with.

It sucks in my case because I landed this client through ebay which doesn't leave me much options as a seller.

As a seller I feel I have the right to refuse service to ANYONE for any reason. I wanted to cancel this persons order simply because of the attitude I got from him...

(this was from me asking simple questions which he told me before hand "if you have any questions please ask")

then I got a furious response from him which lead me to send him a cancel request and to refund his money so that he could find someone else to step on because I simply didn't want to deal with this person.

But as I mentioned the sell was landed through ebay. I requested to cancel the order and offered him a refund but the douche bag denied the cancel request and INSISTED that he gets his logos.

Since this was on ebay, I couldn't appeal the open case and I was forced to deliver the logos.

So...I reacted and designed some messed up logos which I posted to my personal facebook account. I decided not to deliver those logos because I had to play it smart.

So as of now he hasn't received any logos from me but I have 4 - 8 business days to deliver.

I am still currently battling with this person so I am going to make him wait till the very last min before he receives anything.

At this time my ebay account has 100% positive feedback with over 200+ sales. Now this douche bag comes along and refuses to cancel the order just so he can ruin my reputation...Well I will be making this public and have already taken screenshots and preparing myself.

As a seller on ebay I have hardly any options to protect myself. It seems to me and many other sellers on ebay that ebay favors buyers.

Fact: As an ebay seller you do NOT have the option to leave a negative feedback on a buyer.

Which is one of the main reasons I started to learn SEO...I simply want to branch away from ebay and get direct sales.

Saves me money on listing and final value fees and gives me the freedom to refuse work to anyone! the way it should be.

I am trying to keep a positive head and keep negative people away from me so if my client is already showing signs of being a pain in the ass then I simply would want to refund his money and cancel the work before I even start to save both of us some time.

After all...time is money and I don't want to be wasting my valuable time with douche bags.

I would like to keep pressing forward, providing my clients with professional work and treat each other like professionals. Weed out the ones who are a waste of time and continue to focus my time on my awesome clients.

After all, I'd only be letting go of 1 douche bag out of every those odds means nothing to me.

Personal Issues and Work Issues

My plan was to write and update this blog daily but life just simply caught up with me. Personal issues as well as work issues kept me from writing and updating my blog. I am simply drained out and have no time...I guess you can say I feel over worked...fuck it.

I'll get back into updating this more once I am caught up with my personal issues and work related issues...right now seems like my personal issues are even interfering with my work but...nothing I can do but to keep moving forward and tackle everything 1 by 1.

Just needed to do some kind of update...mainly to continue on with my journey to rank this blog for the #1 spot for the keyword "geoffrey woodruff"

so far, ranked number 2, 3 and 6.

Well...I will update more later.

I started to write how exactly I do my keyword research but never had the time to finish it...

So this filler content will have to do for now.

What Are Micro Niche Sites

Also known online by internet marketers as MNS. These are mini sites usually consisting of  5 - 10 articles or more. Each article is based around that specific niche.

For example. One of my micro niche website is and the niche is "Angry Birds"

How do they work?

Micro Niche sites work by targeting specific keywords related to that specific niche. Most of the keywords will bring in 720 - 35,000 searches per month or even more. Most people will load their MNS site with advertisements such as Adsense, Amazon, CPA or ClickBank.

My personal favorite is Adsense.

What is Adsense?

Google AdSense is an ad serving application ran by Google Inc. Website owners can enroll in this program to enable text, image, and video banners on their websites / Micro Niche Sites.

These banners are CPC banners which basically means Cost Per Click.

Here is what I do. I place these Google Adsense banner codes on my Micro Niche Sites and each time a visitor clicks on one of these advertisements I get paid by google! w00t!

That is one way to monetize your MNS. Another one of my favorite ways to monetize my websites is with CPA.

What is CPA?

CPA stands for Cost Per Action and can be anything to do from a simple email submit or a download and install program.

There are tons of places I promote and each company has different advertisements to promote. I tend to go for the easy email submit or download and install offers.

For example. On my micro niche site I have a banner towards the right "slammings" which is a CPA banner (banner designed by me). When someone clicks on that banner, downloads and installs that game I get a commission for that lead, $1.20 per download to be exact.

Which is why, if my micro niche site can be monetized in any way using CPA that is the first route I would go.

If you're interested in promoting a great CPA network that pays on time click here

Building a Micro Niche Site

When I build a micro niche site, what I do first is find a niche, a niche that I personally feel will do good or is currently trending, at the time angry birds was a hot topic. bringing in over 1 million searches per month for those golden keywords and at the time the competition was medium. I usually go for niches that are easy to rank my site on the top of google.

The key is finding a niche that has low competition with lots of searches. That way it will be quick and easy to hit google and bings front page for that specific keyword.

For example. If you want to build a micro niche website based on losing weight...goooood luck! trying to rank for any of those keywords are damn near impossible. Not saying it can't be done but you will be constantly fighting with the top gurus of SEO. If I was to build a site around that niche I would focus on long tail keywords.

What are Long tail keywords?

Basically it's just a longer keyword, instead of trying to rank my "weight loss" website around the keyword "how to lose weight" I would go for a keyword like "how to lose weight with (product)" and replace (product) with a specific weight loss product.

I can go on and on about how micro niche sites are awesome but just imagine having around 10 - 20 MNS websites all ranking for great keywords with tons of traffic and each site bringing in $25 - $50 per day... All on auto pilot.

If you're looking to build some micro niche sites feel free to contact me and we can discuss your project. Although I am currently busy building my own MNS empire I always have time to help out others that are willing to learn.

If You Build It They Will Come

This is not true when it comes to the internet. Anyone can build you a nice website, the question is can they bring you the organic traffic and targeted leads you need to get the sales?

That is why choosing the right company is important when it comes to building your website and getting your online marketing done. The person building your website should know about SEO and how important on-site SEO is.

If you do not know what SEO is read my post about SEO and why it is important.

SEO Takes Months to see results!

Yes that is true but there are other options available to drive instant real targeted visitors to your website. One of my favorite options are....Youtube.

Yes, Youtube.

Youtube is not just a site to watch videos or to entertain you. In fact, youtube is known as the second largest search engine in the world!

Using youtube is one of my favorite ways to boost traffic to my websites, especially my MNS (Micro Niche Sites) which I'll write about later.

Back to marketing via youtube. It's not just about creating a nice catchy and appealing video but also keyword research and optimization goes into play also.

I provide a service for this which includes the video, submission, keyword research for the description. Check it out here:

There are other ways to drive instant traffic to your websites. Be sure to check back and i'll be sure to share them.

The Real Geoffrey Woodruff

Okay, This is more of a joke than anything. If I offended the other 1,520,000 Geoffrey Woodruff's out there then....tough sh!t...

So I was curious and decided to google myself... (who does that?) is what I hear after someone stumbles upon my blog.

Anyways, I googled myself a few weeks ago and seen that I was not the first listing!

This was one of my main reasons for registering my personal name as a domain name and using blogsite to host my page! in 3 days looks like i'm climbing the charts!

Move over imposter! I am here to claim the #1 results.

So my facebook page comes in as rank #2...which just goes to show you the power of social signals in googles algorithm. I know I should be adding social signals to all my niche sites but that takes up a lot of time...I guess I'll start on my next MNS site.

Back to getting the first results. Whoever this old ass imposter from the UK thinks he is! he better make way for the real Geoffrey Woodruff, again...just joking but lets see how long it will take me to claim that 1st spot.

What is SEO and why is it important?

SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. With this service it basically optimizes your website to get indexed in the major search engines such as Bing, google and yahoo.

There are so many ways to go about this and finding the right person to do the job is very crucial. It will determine if you can rank your website onto the first page of major websites for specific keywords.

For example. If you're a local dentist located in hawaii then you would most likely try to rank your website on the top of google for the keywords "hawaii dentist" or something to that effect.

SEO results

Results with SEO usually take anywhere between 3 - 6 months to appear stable but when it does take effect, expect to get a ton of customers and clients.

SEO is not a one time deal...

when doing SEO work you will constantly need to build backlinks, have great original content and so forth. SEO work usually ranges anywhere from $49 - $400 per month. The reason for this, is because it is a daily job. Unlike building a website. Once you're website is built, it is done.

Keyword Research

This process usually involves finding keywords relevant to your niche or business, find the keywords that you can rank for and how much visitors you can expect to receive from that keyword.

How much does a website cost?

The most common question I get asked as a web developer.

How much does a website cost?

So, exactly how much does a website cost? It all depends, that's like putting a price on a car, a boat or even a house.

Not all websites are built the same.

Each website has different features. It all comes down to what you need your website to do. Will it be an online store? will it be for informational purposes?

If its a basic "about the company" website you can find that most people will go around the $150 - $500 price range. Where most of these basic websites are usually 4 - 5 page websites.

If it's an online store you're looking to get then there are usually tons of products to list, you may find yourself paying by the hour. This can range anywhere from $25 -$60 per hour.

Of course, like any market, you will find the people desperate to land the sale and will undercut the competitor just to land this sale. Not only is this dangerous but usually a waste of time.

It causes a lot of time wasted and sometimes even more work. If someone is charging below that price range for a website, chances are you are going to get what you pay for.

Domain name & Web Hosting

Don't forget the cost of your web hosting and domain name. Basically a domain name is the address you would type to visit your site. for example. to visit my website you would type in or this would be considered a domain name. Me, personally I like to use and for my domain registrants. I don't really care for godaddy but because it's used by so many others it makes pushing domain names out of my account really easy and sometimes you can find good coupons. For domain names you are looking at around $10 - $15 per year.

As for web hosting, most companies prefer to go with a month to month payment which basically leaves no obligation and they can leave at any time. You can get web hosting for as little as $10.95 per month from one of my servers at or you could find other hosting providers.

Host with me

if you decide to get hosting through, contact me and I'll be more than willing to help you get started with your website. Mention that you found me through my blog.

Phone calls with potential clients

Maybe I am new school but I do not like to talk to potential clients on the phone. I like to have all the facts written out and placed in front of me - the way they are in an email - so that I can take it all in, review the situation and then decide the best strategy to help my clients to achieve their goals.

As a web developer, I am constantly having to deal with clients who are not always Tech-savvy. I find myself at times having to explain how things work rather then landing the sale. Sometimes I get the sale and sometimes not.

I feel a lot of the times the reason that I lose a sale is because of me not wanting to talk on the phone with the potential client. Yes, I lose a lot of business this way but let me explain why I do not like to chat via phone.

Phone Calls Takes Up Time

I find that a lot of times when the client wants to talk via a phone call it usually ends up to story telling which is something I am trying to avoid. Since there is practically only me, being the sales man, the designer and developer...My time is you could say. I would simply like to focus on the strong points and avoid chit chat.

Lets put it this way, If I spent a half hour talking with each and every client about his project, I'd have no time to do the job. Then I would be left with a lot of unhappy clients.

Phone Calls Cannot Be Documented

Well it can be recorded with the permission from the client but I'd simply like to have everything in writing. With emails I have everything documented and saved in folders where I can also come back to it to review exactly what the client wanted done.

Once I had a client tell me over the phone that he wanted something done a specific way. After doing so and spending a few hours on the code he asked why did I do that and that he didn't want that on his website.

That is why documentation is really important.

No Backspace button during a phone call

what's said, is done. There is no backspace button during a phone call. Phone calls also requires swift thinking and fast responses, If I was the client and I had a question I wouldn't want to hear "uuhhh" while waiting for a response or answer.

With an email we can avoid all of that by me taking the time to really address the question then writing it down in a reply.

With all that said I do understand that some people simply rather speak on the phone. I simply prefer emails.
I do realize that phone calls can be important though, it shows the client trust. Which is fine if it's just a "Hi, I am not a scammer" type of call which would take less then 5 mins but like I mentioned above...most phone calls lead to story telling.
